SilverSummit Helps Local Youth Dress for Success Through Creative Back-to-School Challenge

SilverSummit Healthplan recently partnered with the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada to host a unique back-to-school event that combined creativity, teamwork and confidence-building for local youth.

The event, developed around a fun fashion-themed concept created by The Ferraro Group, challenged participants to showcase their style and imagination while learning valuable budgeting skills.

Before the event, youth participants from the James Boys & Girls Club, Agassi Boys & Girls Club and Downtown Boys & Girls Club competed by creating design vision boards that illustrated their fashion inspiration and creativity. The winning participants earned the opportunity to take part in a special shopping challenge at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission Thrift Store.

To help them prepare for the upcoming school year, SilverSummit Healthplan provided each participant with a $100 shopping budget to purchase clothing and accessories. Armed with their budgets, students searched the thrift store for pieces that would help bring their creative visions to life.

Participants were divided into teams and challenged to create three themed looks:

  • First Day of School
  • Dream Vacation
  • Dream Job

Working together, teams selected clothing and accessories while staying within their budgets, demonstrating both creativity and smart decision-making. The activity encouraged youth to think critically about spending, collaborate with teammates and express their personal style.

The event concluded with a lively Fashion Face-Off, where each team presented its themed looks to judges. Participants confidently showcased their designs and explained the inspiration behind their choices, highlighting the teamwork and imagination that went into each look. To recognize their creativity and hard work, The Ferraro Group awarded each member of the winning team a $50 gift card, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition and celebrating the students' outstanding efforts.

The event was more than just a shopping trip—it was an opportunity for young people to build confidence, develop practical life skills and prepare for a successful school year.
